About your host, Kimberly & Jose Tomas, with Cristina

My name is Kim, together with my husband Jose Tomas and friend Cristina we want to share with you our favourite spots in Spain. Cristina is the history buff of our operation. She keeps us in line with the dates and facts and figures. She loves researching and discovering new details to share with our guests. Jose Tomas will keep everyone entertained and well fed. His solution to most problems is a good joke, a hearty laugh and some food. I'm a Canadian who has been living in Spain for over 15 years. I spend my free weekends and vacations with my family getting to know my adopted country.

What we'll do

Imagine touring Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the Oxford University and viewing an original translation of William Tyndale’s Bible all in one afternoon. For lovers of literature and history the city of Alcalá, just outside of Madrid, has the Spanish equivalent to those English historical icons and more. 1st you will see an original Polyglot Bible. A multi-language Bible produced in the 16th century that later became a base for translations such as Tyndale's and the King James Version. The tour then takes us over to the University which was one of the most prominent in Europe. Later we will wander down the main street which was the Jewish section of Alcala during the 15th century. Find out how the Jews avoided mixing with their Gentile neighbours at the time. Along main street we will also see Cervantes birth home. Cervantes, a contemporary of Shakespeare, influenced the Spanish language as much as the Bard did the English. He had more in common with Shakespeare, come and find out what. Finally, we will see where Columbus met queen Isabella to discuss his jaunt across the pond. And see how a Catholic queen inadvertently swayed GB to become a Protestant nation.
